Living By Faith is an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church located in Independence, Va. We are an old fashioned, country church. We stand stong on the King James Bible and its doctrine. Here you will find a family oriented, loving and encouraging group of people. You will also hear preaching that will uplift and equip you to spread the word and let your light shine in a dead and dying world.

Living By Faith was founded in 2005. During our foundation and building program we met for a short time in the Independence Elementary School and then mostly in the Independence Volunteer Fire Department. We were blessed with these buildings to meet in and are thankful to those who supported​ us and helped make it possible for us to have services! We were and continue to be blessed with people within and outside our church who spent countless hours during the years of our building program. There is still work to be done in and around the church, but we now have our own building to worship in and use for the Lord! We had our first Sunday of worship services in the church on April 7, 2013.

 

Derek Cowan is the pastor of Living By Faith and has been since its founding. Derek has been preaching 13 years and pastoring for 11 years. Derek, his wife Katie and their four children live in Speedwell, Va. We are blessed with a pastor who will stand on the Word of God, tell us what we need to hear (not what we might want to hear) and who truly cares for his congregation. Derek has a desire to see himself and others grow closer to God every day.

Most importantly, though, we want anyone who may not know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior to come to know him in the true pardon of sin. Romans 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confes with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in the heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Over and over the word "blessed" has come up, but no other word can describe how God has loved, provided for and worked through our church! We will continue to do His will and look forward to many, many services of praise, seeing lost souls saved and reaching out to our community.
